Aww. Little nuggets in old-timey outfits. Check out these adorable “vintage-like” portraits by Tyler Orehek using the artist’s then-three-year-old son and his younger daughter as his models. “By incorporating authentic antiques, period clothing and carefully selected backgrounds, reality is suspended if only for a moment. The photographs possess an undeniable sentimentality, which transports the observer to another time and place.” Check out the images after the jump and at TylerOrehek.com.

Ugh. I give up. There’s no fighting destiny. Groan. Yes, yes, yes. Peter Capaldi is hot. Not Matt Smith hot. Not David Tennant hot. But his own kind of hot. And I won’t badmouth him anymore. Here he is at the BBC America’s Dr. Who Premiere Fan Screening event at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York City.
I’ve said it before: Jason Statham isn’t MY idea of sexy, but there’s definitely something there. I can see myself being sated by his passionate lovemaking in an alternate timeline. Here he is outside his SoHo hotel.

SeaWorld has been butt hurting ever since the 2013 documentary Blackfish started a (well-deserved) backlash against the park. Attendance has declined by 5%, stock prices have declined almost 50% in the past 12 months, and SeaWorld announced it’s suffered an overall $15.9 million loss. To help stop the company’s freefall, it announced today it will build significantly larger tanks at its three marine parks, beginning with San Diego.
The new initiative, which it has dubbed Blue World Project, is expected to cost the company several hundred million dollars across its three parks in San Diego, Orlando and San Antonio, said SeaWorld CEO Jim Atchison.
“We will spend more building these habitats than we have spent building some of our parks,” he said.
The first of the new environments will be built at SeaWorld San Diego, where the killer whale habitat will have a total water volume of 10 million gallons, nearly double the current size. A new, enlarged tank, which will be located where the current Shamu underwater viewing pool is, will have a maximum depth of 50 feet, a surface area of nearly 1.5 acres and is planned to be more than 350 feet in length. The new environment will also have viewing windows below water level exceeding 40 feet in height.
“Through up-close and personal encounters, the new environment will transform how visitors experience killer whales,” Atchison said.
Of course, a bigger prison is still a prison, as PETA Foundation Director of Animal Law Jared Goodman points out:
“This is a desperate drop-in-the-bucket move to try to turn back the hands of time at a time when people understand the suffering of captive orcas, and it will not save the company,” said PETA Foundation Director of Animal Law Jared Goodman. “What could save it would be the recognition that it needs not to make larger tanks but to turn the orcas out in seaside sanctuaries so that they can feel and experience the ocean again, hear their families, and one day be reunited with them.”
Here, here.
And if you’ve STILL never seen Blackfish, I encourage you to watch it here. It’s completely traumatizing and worth every second of your time.

Andrew Scott – who plays consulting criminal James Moriarty in the BBC One megahitSherlock – tells Attitude magazine how he loves to unwind by watching RuPaul’s Drag Race. ”Well let’s talk RuPaul’s Drag Race. I love a bit of Drag Race. It’s so celebratory, it’s funny as fuck. I just admire them so much, I think there’s something moving about it, because it goes beyond.
“There’s a whole drag culture that actually I know very little about – and then suddenly you put 10 drag queens together and instead of just being a bunch of drag queens – you start to see their personalities.
“That’s what I don’t get when they call it a guilty pleasure. There’s nothing guilty about it. I’m not gonna come in from being in an Ibsen play and stick on another play. I want to watch Drag Race!”

A really fun show tonight at the Antebellum Gallery in Hollywood (Las Palmas and Hollywood Blvd). And perfect gay wedding gifts! $5 cover at the door. Click to enlarge the images below. .
It was announced this week that hundreds of Andy Warhol’s films are be converted to digital format. In a partnership between The Warhol, The Museum of Modern Art, and MPC (the VFX studio who recently turned van Gogh still lifes into animated paintings) This project will be the largest effort to digitize the work of a single artist in MoMA’s entire collection. (FYI, early in his career, Warhol tried to donate a shoe drawing to the museum and was rejected. They now have over 150 works in their permanent collection.) According to the press release:
“The project will once again make accessible approximately 500 titles that Warhol made between 1963 and 1972, then withdrew from circulation more than 40 years ago. Nearly 1,000 rolls of original 16mm film will be digitally scanned, frame by frame, and converted into high resolution (2K) images. The process will begin in August and will take several years to complete as the process of scanning is delicate. However once completely digitized the entire collection of Warhol films will be available for public screening.”
MPC will scan and restore all the film, so in the near future anyone will be able to watch his famous Sleep, Blow Job or Empire. Below is a montage of some of the more famous ones.
The fantastic Tumblr Great Art in Ugly Rooms, which I’ve posted about in the past, has been around over a year now. I like to go back a visit every so often to see what they’ve been up to. If you are unfamiliar, GAIUR is literally great art photoshopped into hideous or unremarkable spaces, but with irony, wit, humor and sharp knowledge of art and the art world. Lately, they’ve starting using less familiar work to great effect. But no more words, just look (…and enjoy more here.) You may need to Google a few names, if art history wasn’t one of your strong subjects.
