So this happened. 5 Seconds of Summer had a record release party for their new album and went with a Mexican theme because why not? They wore sombreros and served tacos and gave out handlebar mustaches while a Mariachi band played. All fun and games until somebody cries “racism,” right? Now, it seems to me that in 2014 everyone should know the mantra “cultural appropriation is never OK.” And even if you personally feel that the world has gotten too PC, you might want to err on the side of social conservatism, especially if you are in the spotlight and have product to sell. Anyway, predictably, social media blew up with most everybody coming down on the band for their tone-deaf antics. Funnily enough, most of the same people who were APPALLED that they were disrespectful to Mexicans then went on to stereotype Australians as idiots. HA! Internet trolls.

When the band discovered there was a scandal brewing, they didn’t apologize, they decided to double down. Never a good idea, guys.
