Not sure who this is for: Emotionally stunted list makers? Emo diarists? I don’t know. But the Onion Note, developed by notebook manufacturer Magnus Ferreus, is scientifically designed to make you cry when you write in it. Every time. It’s pages are treated with allyl propyl – the compounds commonly found in onion oil, which is the reason chopping up one of the vegetables makes you cry. The heat caused by the friction of writing on the page causes the compound on the paper to evaporate, sending the gas up to your quickly-watering eyes. Watch the hysterical videos below.

Bored Panda says they ”can think of a hundred uses for the Onion Note – it’s probably the best thing to get you out of class, or to make people believe that you’re an amazing writer penning a tragic story. Or, you could play pranks – just camouflage the cover, gift it to someone and watch them get flummoxed as the waterworks begin!”
Pricing is yet to be announced, as is the exact date the Onion Note will go on sale. It does look like Japan will be getting the unique notebook before anywhere else, though, and given the country’s love of cathartic movies, TV shows, and music, we imagine at least a few interested scribes will be ready with cash in hand whenever the Onion Note does show up in stores.

Kind of reminds me of this classic commercial from the mid-’90s, the crying number, where you would call a 1-900 number to hear the recording of an incredibly sad story that would totally make you cry.
