Well, I can’t EXACTLY call myself a designer (I know I just did) but my art work is the basis for a Spring/ Summer Collection that I designed and just debuted yesterday at Capsule in New York City. I’m an artist, although as you may or may not clock, I post for The Wow Report several times a day. I was once in publishing and I like pop culture, so it’s a natural fit. PLUS, occasionally I get to do a shameless self-promotion like this….
Here’s the backstory. Print All Over Me is this great website where ANYONE can put their drawings, artwork, designs or photographs on over 75 different items of clothing (plus a few housewares.) My work is all based on vintage paint by number paintings and I always wanted to put them on clothing. I got obssessed with PAOM over the L O N G New York winter. The brother and sister team of Meredith & Jesse Finkelstein have their offices in the New Museum incubator here in New York and have done tons of collaborations. (The one they just did for NYFW with Tumblr was great and got tons of press) I proposed a collaboration with Johnny Pizzolato & Virginia Craddock‘s International Playground and PAOM and they agreed. We partnering to produce and wholesale the collection through International Playground, which has a store in SoHo. They also represent about a dozen designers, including Becca McCharen who is having a MAJOR moment with her Chromat line as a CFDA nominee and her collaboration with Intel.
Anyway, so, here’s my mini-collection worn by the beautiful Valissa Yoe. she a woman of many talents, as she just styled the dancers for Madonna‘s private birthday party, DJ’d Tuesday at Susanne Bartsch‘s On Top at The Standard and is spinning at SoHo House this very night. Our guy is Joaquim de Santana who dances with Cedar Creek is in the long-running production of Sleep No More at the McKittrick Hotel. (Yes, I KNOW he looks better in that t-shirt, than me…) They were photographed by the handsome and talented Jonathan Pozniak and I don’t want to even want to TELL YOU that the first shoot was a bust, because the models didn’t show up. Jonathan thinks I should make an example of these two and tell you their names… but that would be tacky, right? (Believe me, I wrestled with idea…) Needless to say, in the end we are happy they ghosted us… we got better models in round two, because they are real people –the responsible kind, that keep their obligations. ’nuff said.
All of the looks based on my paintings, drawings and collages of mine. I’ve included some so you can see how well they go from a painting to a top, pants or a bag. I think so anyway. The collection won’t be in stores until 2016 but I post again about it, don’t worry. And I’ll be doing an online store with gift items for holiday too. Stay tuned. you can find more of my work here.
