Sure, he was a “short-fingered vulgarian” with weird hair even back then, but there was something compelling about Donald Trump in the 1980s, when he burst onto the New York social scene with his über-blonde glamazon wife, Ivana. She was brassy and shiny and bejeweled and bespangled and and painted and moussed within an inch of her life – but isn’t that what the decade was all about? We loved her for it. Just look at the two of them in these pictures. I mean REALLY. Did anyone have more fun in the ’80s than these two? Even now, I can’t help but feel THIS IS WHAT GLAMOUR IS ALL ABOUT. Big hair. Big ball gowns. Big jewels. It still excites me. And, oh!, just imagine if these two stayed together and we had IVANA TRUMP AS OUR FIRST LADY? I’m gasping even as I write the words.
On a parenthetical note: Life before teeth whiteners, though, amiright? Whooooooeeee. It was a DIFFERENT WORLD, I’ll tell you what.
