Um, still not sure why we need a fictional account of Stonewall, when the actual account is so cinematic and so inspiring. And the fact that it stars a young white cis boy from out of town, instead of the true Stonewall legends Sylvia Rivera, Stormé DeLarverie, and Marsha P Johnson, is beyond me. Marsha barely makes the character list for this movie. So insulting.
I’m not the only one who noticed this, too. Youtube commenters are up in arms.
Never mention the bunch of QPOC (Queer People of Color) especially trans people who were there from the begining and recieved the most violence and discrimination from the police force. God forbid we tell their story.
Are you FUCKING SERIOUS! Once again the cis gay men take the spotlight forgetting the actual fucking history of what happened that day.
Which is not to say that Jeremy Irvine isn’t a great little actor. And Jonny Beauchamp and Caleb Landry Jones are future ICONS – just forces of nature who have yet to be tapped. So the casting is interesting. I WILL see it. But I will be ready to side-eye every scene unless I’m somehow proved wrong.

Danny Winters (Jeremy Irvine) is forced to leave behind friends and loved ones when he is kicked out of his parent’s home and flees to New York. Alone in Greenwich Village, homeless and destitute, he befriends a group of street kids who soon introduce him to the local watering hole The Stonewall Inn; however, this shady, mafia-run club is far from a safe-haven. As Danny and his friends experience discrimination, endure atrocities and are repeatedly harassed by the police, we see a rage begin to build. This emotion runs through Danny and the entire community of young gays, lesbians and drag queens who populate the Stonewall Inn and erupts in a storm of anger. With the toss of a single brick, a riot ensues and a crusade for equality is born
Stonewall hit theaters September 25.
Maybe someday they’ll tell the actual story. Until then, this is what we get.
