Key & Peele is ending its run on Comedy Central after their fifth season. Series co-creator and star Keegan-Michael Key told TheWrap;
“It was just time for us to explore other things, together and apart. I compare it to Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. We might make a movie and then do our own thing for three years and then come back and do another movie.
I’m thinking we could do that every three years – take a year, go bang out a movie. That’s the plan right now.”
Their fifth season premiered July 8 and will run through September. All of season 5’s episodes have already been shot and on Twitter, Jordan Peele confirmed the news as well. Personally, I think they’ve been on such a roll that they must have said, to continue they wanted a LOT more money and Comedy Central said no. Earlier this month was nominated for multiple Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Variety Sketch Series and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Key. Why would you want to let a show go received a prestigious Peabody Award in 2013. Key infamously backed up President Barack Obama at the White House Press Corp dinner with his Luther impression. I predict something similar might happen for Amy Schumer, not that she’s a movie star. In other words, cable TV doesn’t pay THAT much – unless you are Jon Stewart.
To me, one of the funniest bits, of the MANY hilarious ones on the series had black college football players introducing themselves to the camera with THE most ridiculous names. They are TOO funny. Watch.
