RIP Larry Levan House Music frankie knuckles The “Godfather of House Music”, Frankie Knuckles passed away yesterday. He was 59. Born in the Bronx, Knuckles first began DJing in New York alongside Larry Levan. He then moved to Chicago in the 1970′s to become the premiere DJ at The Warehouse, the nightclub that would birth the dance music genre “house.” Knuckles then opened up his own club, The Power Plant, in 1983. Knuckles became renowned for his smooth and classy mixing style and for his ability to seek out the best underground tracks. Here’s a short set, appropriately titled, “Where Love Lives” and another longer at The Boiler Room, where you can see Frankie in action. The beats just got heavier in heaven.
