On the heels of yesterday’s explosion in New York’s East Village, a major fire has hit the famed gay getaway Cherry Grove on Fire Island. Fire Island is a magical place and this is very sad. The Ice Palace has hosted endless performances by everyone from Liza Minnelli to Carol Channing, but it is also the home of some pretty major drag including brilliant daytime pool shows.
Instragram user marissacorvo posted this picture which makes it look like the Ice Palace is still standing, but the extent of the damages remains unclear.
We’re devastated by this loss and send our love to the Grove and everyone affected. Here are some videos to remind us of happier times, and we know the Grove will rise again!

They put the SHOW in SHOWS by the pool, and somebody always gets wet. The building on the far side of the pool is pretty definitely gone.
