The weather’s finally perking up. I don’t usually discuss the weather, but it was a long, dreary winter here in NYC. I can’t imagine what Boston was like. I remember going out several times in January and an icy, howling wind destroyed my wig and threatened to pull my lashes off before I ever got into the cab. By the time I’d arrive, My eyes were tearing and snot was running out of my nose for a truly tragic look. But it wasn’t cocaine–it was the weather! I guess I can blame allergies when this “look” continues into warmer, spring weather. More after the jump!
I mention the weather because few could deny that this winter was rough. Yet people feel politics have no effect on their lives. One of our two–count ‘em two–political parties denies that climate change exists. Republican governor Rick Scott actually banned state employees from referring to climate change, it’s been revealed:
“We were instructed by our regional administrator that we were no longer allowed to use the terms ‘global warming’ or ‘climate change’ or even ‘sea-level rise,'” said a second former DEP employee, Kristina Trotta. “Sea-level rise was to be referred to as ‘nuisance flooding.'”
Similar bans on language have been discussed in North Carolina and Pennsylvania, so it isn’t just crazy Florida. Well, if ya can’t talk about something, it ain’t there. Simply ignore a dire problem if it’s too expensive for the polluters to fix or change courses from.
And the democrats often says they’re for green energy but often vote for policies which benefit the vendors of fossil fuels–despite the fact that 80% of coal, gas and oil must remain in the ground if we are to avoid the catastrophe that’s knocking loading at our door if not already inside. Didja hear the one about solar energy jobs up 21%? No, you wouldn’t. But it’s true. I’m glad that someone is stepping up to the plate towards renewable energy. Just not our government. Even Texas oilman George W. Bush admitted that we’re “addicted to oil.” And the whole planet’s environment is at stake because so many of our politicians are addicted to the contributions of the fossil fuel industry.
