Yes, carrying small amounts of marijuana has been decriminalized in Jamaica under a new law, passed just yesterday. Apparently after MUCH debate, Jamaican lawmakers voted to make having of small amounts of pot — up to two ounces — a petty offense that will not result in a criminal record. Also, cultivation of five or fewer plants is permitted too. To many here in the states, this might come as a surprise. One almost assumes that the national flag was Bob Marley smoking a joint, but up until yesterday it was illegal…
Also, as of yesterday, firing up in Fairbanks in now legal. Alaska‘s status as the third state to make marijuana legal for all adults happened last November, when 52% of voters decided to back legalizing it. The ballot required pot to be legal 90 days after the results were certified — February 24. You remember the newscaster, Charlo Greene, who made national news by saying “Fuck it, I quit!” on live TV? Yesterday, she celebrated in WHAT way, I wonder? (via Mashable)
