Did you know that “fart” is one of the oldest words in the English language? It’s TRUE! It’s also one of the oldest words EVER, stretching back before written language. Before agriculture, even. You can tell because it shows up in languages that haven’t been related in a really long time, like Norse and Sanskrit and Greek.
Did you know there wasn’t an onscreen fart until 1974’s Blazing Saddles, BUT there have been literary farts going back to James Joyce, Dante, Shakespeare, Chaucer, the Arabian Nights – all contain fart jokes.
Did you know that some people can take air INTO their rectum? Le Pétomane was a famous French performer in the 19th century who was able to play the popular songs of the day with his butt. He performed for princes and kings and for Sigmund Freud.
