My analysis of last night’s big CW premiere of The 100, plus about a hundred GIFs of Devon Bostwick , after the jump.
Swear to God, here’s the plot of the new CW show, The 100: IN A DYSTOPIAN FUTURE, 100 teenagers must FIGHT THE ELEMENTS AND EACH OTHER TO SURVIVE. Yes, really.
A thousand years from now, scholars will be scratching their heads trying to figure out WHY THE HELL every book, movie, and TV show was about teenagers in a post-apocalyptic future fighting for their survival. Is it some lingering 9/11 paranoia? Is it the fear of high school shootings manifesting itself in art? Who knows. But here we go again. In The 100, the earth has been destroyed by a nuclear holocaust. Everyone is dead, except the astronauts that were in various space stations orbiting the planet. Now, all the space stations have linked together to form an ark, where the survivors wait until the radiation has dissipated enough to return. It’s been a hundred years. They think it will probably take a hundred more. But they decide to test it, just in case, by sending down a hundred of their WORST JUVENILE DELINQUENTS to test the waters, so to speak. Bad kids, see, who will do whatever it takes to survive…
Blah blah blah.
It’s pretty routine, but, amidst all the usual CW clichés of long-haired badboys with pretty smiles, and go-getter good girls and their bratty brunette nemeses , there was one standout: Devon Bostick. You may remember from Diary of Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules. Or maybe not. I don’t know your kiddie movie viewing habits. He was Roderick, though, Wimpy’s brother, and I remember even from the commercials I thought: “THAT KID’S GOING TO BE A STAR!”
Now he is. And he’s just FABULOUS. He plays a goofball, see, named Jasper. ”I am Jasper, one of the hundred,” he tells MStars News, “Jasper is a kind-hearted nerd who constantly throws himself into danger for the girl he loves.” And that’s really all you need to know about his story.
“I’m living proof that they don’t always need really good-looking people on their shows,” he self-deprecatingly says, but that’s just it. He’s TOTALLY hot. He just doesn’t know it. And, to paraphrase One Direction, THAT’S WHAT MAKES HIM BEAUTIFUL!
I think it’s that NOSE. I want to sit on it. And those big eyes. And that SMILE, omg. And those STUPID GOGGLES. Well, e’s just the perfect nerd boyfriend, that’s all.
Too bad he was impaled last night. Hopefully that’s just temporary. I think I heard someomne say his name in the preview for next week, so I’m thinking he survives. I hope so. So far, he’s the best thing about the show.
