During New York Fashion week last month, I took a fast run through some collections to get quick pulse. I found flowers to be enough of a theme for a nice little post featuring some beautiful spring fashions. (My favorite was Thom Browne.) Checking through a few of my fave houses during Paris Fashion Week, I began to see that was indeed a memo that had traveled across the sea. Yes. Spring. Flowers. I know it’s not a big stretch or major innovation to use floral prints, but check out the way in which they’ve been used by to great flowy effect by Chanel, Stella McCartney, and the double duos of Victor & Rolf and Paul & Joe; A more Pop-y tailored punch came from, Valentino, Louis Vuitton & Alexander McQueen. But the major innovator, Iris Van Herpen (I always go for the rebels in a big way) wasn’t using flowered prints, so much as her construction seemed to mimic flower and plant forms, even at the cellular level, in futuristic, sculptural splendor.
