Nobel Prize-winner Paul Krugman has several jobs: professor of Economics at Princeton University, professor at the London School of Economics, and, his best-known job is as an op-ed columnist for The NY Times. He is one of most important political columnists in the USA.
Krugman is the author of 23 books on various subjects and has written extensively for those of us who are not economists, including a monthly column, The Dismal Science for Slate. He has also been a columnist for Fortune Magazine and has published articles in The New Republic, Newsweek, and The New York Times Magazine.
On Monday, in an op-ed piece about Trumponmics, he writes;
“So how’s it going? Politically, the tax cut is a damp squib: Most voters say they haven’t seen any boost to their paychecks, and Republicans are barely talking about the law in their political campaigns.”
“… the effects of the Trump tax cut are already looking like the effects of the Brownback tax cut in Kansas, the Bush tax cut and every other much-hyped tax cut of the past three decades: big talk, big promises, but no results aside from a swollen budget deficit.”
“You might think that the G.O.P. would eventually learn something from this experience, realize that tax cuts aren’t magical, and come up with some different ideas. But I guess it’s difficult for a man to understand something when his campaign contributions depend on his not understanding it.”
