Gay Board Games from the ’70s and ’80s

Oh, the times we had! Remember the ’70s? Playing “Twinkies & Trolls” with Paul Lynde and Randy from the Village People over mimosas and poppers on Fire Island! Truly, a magical time to be gay. The Canadian Lesbian & Gay Archives has unearthed some fabulous gay-themed board games from the 1970s and ’80s, like “Fantasy Weekend in Key West,” “It’s Only Natural,” and “The Rainbow Gayme.” Check them out after the jump.

Twinkees and Trolls: The Board Game (1983)

The object is to accumulate as many Twinkees as possible and the fewest Trolls. 

Penalties on the game board include “Your cockring snaps and hits your partner in the eye. Pay $10,000 medical expenses” and “Spend the evening in ‘The Sling’…and can’t walk for a week. Lose a turn.”

Fantasy Weekend in Key West (year unknown)

Billed as: The first gay board game where your fantasies are fulfilled by beautiful and hot men.

Players move around the Key West board going to tea dances and bars while drawing “encounter” and “experience” cards. Don’t get a sun burn and lose a turn!

Gay Monopoly (1983)

 Starring Ollie Gaytor and the Parker Sisters.

Like Monopoly, but with Tom of Finland art, a gay alligator, and properties such as Castro Street, Christopher Street, and Fire Island.

Gay Trivia (year unknown)

A game of fact and fancy for and about gay men and women.

1800 trivia questions.

Gay Weekend (year unknown)

Object of the game is to be the first player to make it into Monday, after having tricked Friday night, Saturday night, Sunday night, and Monday morning…exhausted but a winner! 

Using game tiles, players piece together hunky men like Mark, Billy, Scott, and Glen.

It’s Only Natural (1986)

A fabric board game for lesbians that encourages strategy and throws in an element of chance.

Spaces on the game board include “Attempt world record for longest hug” and “Invited to speak at a school. Tell it like it is!”

Jack n’ Andy (1991)

A game for men; winner is the first player to get a Hole Card that matches the combination he has chosen at the beginning of the game.

Rainbow Gayme (1992)

Begin the gayme by coming out of the closet. The Rainbow Gayme is a fun way to learn more about the myth, magic and lore of our gay culture.
