Yes, everyone on the Oscars red carpet looked beautiful and handsome and groomed to the max but it was all pretty safe and expected. (Congrats, stylists.) Except for Adam Rippon, 28 & Rita Moreno, 86, that is. (With the exception of Helen Mirren and Jane Fonda, who are GODDESSES!)
Rippon wore a black harness under his shoulder cut-out tuxedo, all by Moschino, and social media immediately chimed in with a HELL YES! Chris Rovzar, of Bloomberg tweeted,
“Somewhere in heaven, Oscar Wilde, Harvey Milk, James Baldwin, and Michelangelo just shared a margarita.”
Moreno skipped the stylist and went to her own closet and wore the same dress that she went to the 1962 Oscars in when she won the best supporting actress for her role in West Side Story.
She told E! that the skirt was made from a material traditionally used to make Japanese kimonos.
“I thought it would tarnish. It’s been hanging in my closet.“
Moreno is one of only a dozen performers to EGOT. She’s got an Emmy, a Grammy, a Tony and an Oscar at home.
Rippon still has time to snatch lots more trophies to add to the bronze medal he just won in Pyeongchang at the Winter Olympics.
Jeremy Scott, creative director of Moschino, posted a pic with Mirai Nagasu who was Rippon’s date in a pale blue, embroidered Tadashi Shoji gown. Scott said that Rippon would be on the red carpet,
“Slaying in Moschino!”
He was and he added a leather bow tie for some extra edge, too. Are you just being avant, Adam, or are you sending us a clear signal?
Rita Moreno wearing the same dress she wore to the ‘62 #oscars just proves she honestly IS Lydia from #OneDayAtATime. I love her so much pic.twitter.com/9PrQlmeLEL
