Dame Edna Everage is a housewife/superstar, and before her retirement, she was one of the most formidable comic creations the world has ever known. A dedicated Dadaist, with her diamonté harlequin glasses, mauve wig, and her size-eleven heels, she gave us courage, and in her very real way, she was courageous.
Dame Edna is that rarest thing in our time, an absolute absurdist and an inspired personification of caprice. She may have retired, but Dame Edna will never leave my heart. I love her. I miss her.
