UPDATE: At least 235 people were killed and another 109 injured in an attack Friday on a Sufi mosque in Egypt’s North Sinai region, Egyptian state-run media reported, in what appears to be the deadliest terror attack on Egyptian soil.

Gunmen opened fire outside the mosque after two explosions went off inside, as worshipers fled. The blasts from improvised explosive devices caused considerable damage to the Al Rawdah mosque in Bir Al-Abed, in the west of Arish province.

Egyptian President Abdel Fatah el-Sisi has declared three days of national mourning.

Spokesman Khalid Mujahid of the Egyptian health ministry, described the incident as a “terrorist attack” to state-run Masriya TV station.

This bears the hallmarks of an attack by ISIS, although no one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Egyptian security forces face almost daily attacks from ISIS-aligned militants, although Mosque attacks are relatively rare in Egypt.

There is no word yet on what happened to the militants involved. This is a developing story.
