Meryl Streep is our most beloved actress, damn good singer (unless you count Florence Foster Jenkins), a political activist and mimic, (she does a damn good Trump), model (this month’s Vogue cover girl) and half of an 80s crime-fighting duo (with Cher!)
During a speech in front of the Committee to Protect Journalists last week (she’s also a defender of the First Amendment!) Streep recounted an incident where she had to defend a woman from physical violence. She said,
“Someone else was being abused and I just went completely nuts and went after this man. Ask Cher—she was there. And the thug ran away, it was a miracle.”
The dynamic duo apparently saved a woman from a mugger in New York City during the time they were filming Silkwood together in the ’80s.
Cher mater-of-factly corroborates the anecdote in an Us Weekly “25 Things You Don’t Know About Me” column,
“Meryl Streep and I saved a girl from a large mugger in New York City.”
Can you imagine? the shock of being saved from a violent episode only to realize it was Cher and Meryl Streep who saved you?
Those bad bitches will reunite again for next year’s Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, the Mamma Mia sequel.
